This Edo era, antique textile is a wonderful example of this, finally settling into a mid, light blue, Ama-iro. 
Original, visible mending represents fully utilizing the cloth, resilience & survival.
Now remade, this is one of 2 from this rare textile I purchased at the 94th Kyoto Antique fair this year.
